New Afro-Caribbean supermarket bringing spice to Scunthorpe



Titilayo Corser has opened Scunthorpe's first-ever Afro-Caribbean supermarket, MamaRoxSam's.

A Nigerian-born mother of two has added spice to Scunthorpe High Street by opening the town' s first-ever Afro-Caribbean supermarket.
Titilayo Corser, 32, has dedicated her £8,000 initial business venture called MamaRoxSam's to her two daughters Roxanne and Sammiat.
Since opening last month in premises opposite the Penny Bank pub. Titi as she is known says there has been lots of very good feed--back from shoppers in Scunthorpe.

She said: "We have lots of African people in Scunthorpe and surroundings as well as Caribbean people. People have come here from Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, South African, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.
"In the past we have to drive as far way as Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester and London just to get our food.
"And we have a lots of very good feedback from English people They say they have been waiting for something like this for long time. There is nothing like this in Scunthorpe
"It's very difficult to do everything on your own. I still have to take the kids to school and pick them up every day But the feedback from the people has given me positive vibes"


Later this year Titilayo plans to branch out by cooking lunchtime food like Caribbean jerk chicken and other dishes frfom Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and South Africa....
A launch party is planned at the nearby Café Indiependent on September 2,
In the meantime she is running her own Facebook page, twitter, Instagram, and YouTube channel to offer advice to cooks.
The new supermarket is trading from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 7pm, 9am until 7pm on Saturday and from 10am until 4pm on Sunday.
